There are several
ways of distinguishing the bighead and silver carps. The first is the gills.
You can see how different the upper portion is. The bighead has a much wider head and you
can see the eyes from below. The silver carp has a keel which runs from the
pectoral fin to the anal fin, the bighead only has it from the pelvic fin
back to the anal fin. And on the bighead, the gill cover is larger giving it
the appearance of a larger head.
