Impact DescriptionIn the late 1980s, Hydrilla verticillata populations at Lake Guntersville, Alabama increased rapidly. A study examined the economic impact of aquatic plant control programs on recreational use of this lake between 1990 and 1994. Results suggest that the greatest economic value for recreation ($122 million annually) occurred when vegetation levels were 20% of the total lake area, and that revenue declined as hydrilla acreage increased.
