Protocol for monitoring of marine benthos: intertidal and subtidal macrofauna

This document includes an extensive discussion of how to choose sample site, size, frequency, and method.  A number of different methods are discussed, including dredges, corers, graps, and photography.  Only general guidelines are given – collectors are encouraged to tailor a sampling program to their study.

In soft-bottomed habitats, grabs or corers are recommended.  In hard-bottomed habitats, photography is recommended.  Many different types and techniques of grabs, corers and cameras are presented.
