LEAF FEATURES OF INTRODUCED
MARSILEA, WATER-CLOVER

Marsilea leaves are composed of 2 double leaflets
that appear as 4.
The leaf margins of different Marsilea species
vary from scalloped to slightly wavy to completely entire. Habitat has an influence.
These are the scalloped margins of the terrestrial form of Marsilea minuta.
Aquatic forms of this plant may be wavy or entire.

Hairy on one side, or both, to glabrous and smooth -
the presence and degree of leaf hair depends on the species of Marsilea.

New leaves emerge in "fiddlehead" style, a reminder
that water-clover is a fern.
