Impact Description | Juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) have the ability to outcompete both native brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) and non-native brown trout (Salmo trutta) for food and space in Great Lake tributaries based on laboratory stream experiments involving competition for profitable stream positions. Also, coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) were observed emerging earlier in tributaries, which may give it a competitive advantage in size over brook and brown trout. |
