| Impact Description | Twenty-nine quinolizidine alkaloids have been found and characterized from the combined leaf/hypocotyl extracts of Lupinus polyphyllus. Alkaloids present in the plant are mildly toxic and cause a bitter taste. Most herbivores quickly learn to avoid them; consumption (including in hay) may be harmful to sheep and cattle. |
