Impact Description | In inland lakes of southern Michigan, introduced redear is associated with ecological changes in populations of pumpkinseed (L. gibbosus), a native molluscivore. Effects of introduced redear sunfish on pumpkinseed include reduced consumption of snails and reduced population densities. Redear sunfish had a competative advantage with snail crushing ability, were able to start feeding on snails at a younger age than the native pumpkin seed; snails are a limited resource in the study lake. |
