Impact DescriptionIntroduction of Blueback Herring to Crystal Lake, CT, reduced modal size of zooplankton from 0.785 mm to 0.285 mm. Previously dominant large zooplankton taxa such as Diaptomus minutus, Daphnia catawba, and Diaphanosoma spp., were all but eliminated in favor of small zooplankton including Bosmina longirostris, Cyclops bicuspidatus, and Tropocyclops prasinus. Similar differences were found in lakes with and without landlocked Alewife.
