Impact DescriptionAlnus glutinosa hybridizes readily with many other alders; three of these species are native to the US. Two of the species, Alnus rhombifolia Nutt. and Alnus rubra Bong. are native to the west coast. A portion of the native range for Alnus serrulate (AIton) Willd. is in the Great Lakes; it can be found in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.
