Impact Description | The introduction of faucet snail (Bithynia tentaculata) has been linked to extensive mortality of migratory waterbirds in the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge in Wisconsin due to its role as a host of the trematodes Cyathocotyle bushiensis and Sphaeridiotrema globulus. 2002 and 2006, over 20,000 migratory birds died at this location due to these parasites. |
