Impact DescriptionIn 2006, there was an estimated 206 acres of Hygrophila polysperma establishment in Florida, although just $14,000 was allocated by the state for control costs (compared to nearly $12 million spent on another indigenous macrophyte, Hydrilla verticillata). When nuisance-levels of establishment do occur, H. polysperma is difficult and expensive to control.
