Impact Description | Stocking of hatchery rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in rivers has led to the introduction of whirling disease into open waters of approximately 20 states, including most recently the Madison River and its tributaries in Montana. Both non-native and native salmonids are susceptible to the disease. |
