Impact DescriptionIn geothermal streams of the western U.S., the New Zealand mudsnail (Potamopyrgus antipodarum) can reach densities of 300,000 snails/m2. It has been shown to alter nutrient (nitrogen and carbon) flows, consume a large portion of daily gross primary production (GPP), and account for most of the invertebrate production.
