Silurus glanis has over 52 associated parasites, a majority of which are distributed in Eurasia. The introduction of S. glanis into new areas has the potential to introduce novel parasites as well. See reference for a full description of associated parasites.

|
European sheatfish virus (ESV) is known to affect Silurus glanis, little work has been done to establish the susceptibility of other species to this virus. ESV is considered a pathogen of high concern.

Further introductions of Silurus glanis may extend the distribution of specialist species such as Trichodina siluri, Myxobolus miyarii, Leptorhynchoides plagicephalus and Pseudotracheliastes stellifer, the latter of which may have pathogenic potential as its congener, P. stellatus, is known to be pathogenic to sturgeons.
