Impact DescriptionPterygoplichthys “disjunctivus” and P. “pardalis” altered nutrient dynamics in the Chacamax River, Mexico, through increased excretion of nitrogen at night, and overall increased both nitrogen (ammonium) and phosphorus (soluble reactive phosphorus) levels compared to reference sites. This altered diel N:P ratios, nutrient remineralization, and created nutrient hotspots linked to Pterygoplichthys spp. activity.
