Common name: Green Guapote

Synonyms and Other Names: sinaloa Cichlid, mojarra de Sinaloa, mojarra verde.

Taxonomy: available through www.itis.gov

Identification: Another name is Herichthys beani. Identifying characteristics were given in Conkel (1993). Color photographs appeared in Konings (1989), Axelrod (1993), and Conkel (1993).

Size: 30 cm SL.

Native Range: Tropical and subtropical America. Pacific Slope drainages of Mexico from the Río Presidio to Río Grande de Santiago (Conkel 1993).

Means of Introduction: Probable aquarium release.

Status: The California population disappeared by 1979 because some of pond habitat had dried up (Shapovalov et al. 1981), or for some other unknown reasons (Courtenay and Stauffer 1990).

Impact of Introduction: The impacts of this species are currently unknown, as no studies have been done to determine how it has affected ecosystems in the invaded range. The absence of data does not equate to lack of effects. It does, however, mean that research is required to evaluate effects before conclusions can be made.

Remarks: There are no known voucher specimens.
