Impact ID2144
Impact TypePredation/Herbivory
Study TypeExperimental
Study LocationLaboratory
Impact DescriptionThe results indicate that C. batrachus may have a relatively small impact on the abundance and distribution of temporary wetland amphibians compared to G. holbrooki, F. chrysotus, and J. floridae. Clarias batrachus consumed less tadpoles than the native fish used in this study (particularly G. holbrooki). C. batrachus did readily consume temporary wetland tadpole species. The relative impact of C. batrachus may depend largely on the timing of wetland colonization.
