Impact DescriptionBeginning in 2004, The State of Ohio has closed the Smallmouth Bass Micropterus dolomieu fishery in Lake Erie during the months of May and June, due to high predation rates by Neogobius melanostomus on nests affecting recruitment. The months of May and June normally account for 50 percent of the total Smallmouth Bass catch in Lake Erie so there will be a considerable loss in funds generated by recreational fishers.
