Impact DescriptionAfrican Jewelfish diets consisted primarily of fish (including Florida Flagfish, Eastern Mosquitofish, Bluefin Killifish, and Dollar Sunfish); Crustaceans (Everglades Crayfish, Riverine Grass Shrimp, Amphipods, and Ostracods) also comprised at least 10% of their diet. Diel and seasonal differences were observed, and while fishes were preferred it appeared that African Jewelfish are opportunistic generalist predators.
