Impact DescriptionAn estimated 20,000 tilapia, most of them Sarotherodon melanotheron and representing about 0.05% or less of the total tilapia population, were killed in Wahiawa Reservoir, Hawaii, by fungal infections in early 1991; populations of this tilapia appear to be a reservoir for fungal disease and may be responsible for spreading infection to other fish species.
