Study TypeExperimental
Study LocationLaboratory
Impact DescriptionDensity of phytoplankton (except cyanobacteria) was always higher outside S. aloides than between rosettes, both in surveys, in situ field experiments and laboratory microcosm experiments. This study concluded that allelopathic substances are excreted by S. aloides. The negative effect may be amplified in natural environments due to other stresses such as shading and grazing.
