Impact DescriptionThe epiphytic cyanobacteria Aetokthonos hydrillicola primarily grows on Hydrilla verticillata. This cyanobacteria causes avian vacuolar myelinopathy, a fatal neurological disease in birds. This disease has been seen to affect waterfowl and bald eagles.
