Impact Description | The Southeatern Asian Nematode parasite Pterygodermatites (Mesopectines) whartoni was found to be infecting wild Cuban Treefrogs in Florida. This parasite requires mammals as definitive hosts, so the frogs likely represent paratenic or intermediate hosts after consuming infected invertebrate intermediate hosts. This study represents the first known occurrence of this parasite species in the Americas. |
