Impact DescriptionDidymosphenia geminata provides habitat for Tubifex tubifex, an oligochaete worm responsible for whirling disease which poses a threat to populations of salmonids. Whirling disease prevalence is 3x higher in streams with blooms of D. geminata (Byle 2014).
