Comments"...Reams (1950, 1953) reported the plant species can tolerate freezing temperatures and he stated that it was established in Richmond, Virginia area lakes for 15 to 20 years until the Richmond area experienced extremely cold winter temperatures for prolonged periods in the early 1970's (personal communication, W. Reams, 1984, University of Richmond)"
