Comments | In 1 ½ hours of searching, we captured 532 snails. This population is well established along the entire east shoreline. We did not find any snails below the impoundment. In May, we found Chinese mystery snails in Bonner Springs, KS. The only other known population in KS is in Elm Creek near Augusta. Chinese mystery snails were first brought to the US for the Chinese food market and are now sold in the aquarium trade. Although little is known about impacts of introduction, the snail is difficult to eradicate because it has an operculum that it can close to prevent desiccation. The operculum is easy to see in the attached pictures. The females are livebearers |
