Commentsfirst collection; Eastern happy (Haplochromis callipterus) were first discovered in the Hillsboro Canal in 1997 (n = 16), after which they were collected in low numbers in subsequent annual electrofishing samples. When sampled in January 2005, eastern happy had a catch rate of 0.50 fish/min (n = 16, 32 pedal minutes) and were collected from the western half of this 17-km canal
