CommentsIntroduced to the Hawaiian Islands from Singapore in 1951 and 1952. Established and abundant in reservoirs, lakes, ponds, streams, and littoral waters with freshwater influence on Hawaii Island, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and Kauai. Displaced in saline habitats by the more recently introduced Sarotherodon melanotheron. Red or orange varieties of O. mossambicus hybrids from aquaculture are marketed as Hawaiian sunfish or Hawaiian perch.
