CommentsForest Service stream surveying crew was surveying upstream a 360m stream reach (starting at GPS point provided). From Sam Chan the person who confirmed ID... Based on the feel test and microscopy, dumb bell like cell, the sample presented meets the ID characteristics for Didymosphenia germinata. I [Sam] typically assume that samples are likely the common native diatom Cymbella mexicana, but (even though the sample was rather decomposed) the sample is highly characteristic of Didymo.
