Comments | Summary: Brittle naiad (BN) Najas minor, was observed on September 26th, 2017 by the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District in Lotus Lake, Carver County (DOW 1000600). The infested areas were located near the public boat launch and a few scattered areas further north on both sides of the lake. Suspected plant leaves were noticeably toothed (3-12 teeth per leaf) and heavily branched, especially near the top consistent with morphological characteristics of Brittle naiad. Three areas have been proposed for treatment with pesticides in fall of 2017 and are pending DNR approval. Lotus Lake infestation will be reported into EDDMaps and added to the MNDNR Designated Infested Waters list as infested with Brittle Naiad. |
