Comments | Brittle Naiad (Najas minor) was observed on August 2, 2017 by Claire Bleser (RPBCWD) in Lake Ann, Carver County (DOW 0001200). Additionally, James Johnson with Freshwater Science conducted a survey and concluded the infestation was localized to a 10 ft x10 ft dense patch in the north-east corner of the lake. The exact location of the infestation was noted by Freshwater Science (see map 1 below). The presence of this plant was then reported to the MnDNR on the same day, August 2, 2017. Suspected plants had highly toothed leaves (3-12 teeth) and displayed several leaves at each node, synonymous with Brittle Naiad characteristics (see Photo 1 & 2 below). A rapid response is being implemented for the isolated dense patch and may be treated with pesticides in the near future. The lake was reported in the EDDMaps system on August 11, 2017. Lake Ann will be added to the MNDNR Designated Infested Waters list as infested with Brittle Naiad. |
