Commentsthe scarcity of records prior to 1900 suggests the pumpkinseed was probably absent throughout the southern half of Ohio before building of the canals. Early records were all in/near canals. The state stocked heavily 1920-1950. Apparently absent from unglaciated part of state prior to 1929 (Trautman 1957)
