Common name: thicklipped gourami

Synonyms and Other Names: Colisa labiosa, Colisa labiosus

Taxonomy: available through www.itis.gov

Identification: An identification key with distinguishing characteristics was provided by Talwar and Jhingran (1991); distinguishing characters were also given by Sterba (1973). This species is very similar in appearance to T. fasciata. Color photographs of live fish appeared in Axelrod et al. (1985).

Size: 8 cm.

Native Range: Tropical Asia. Southern Myanmar (Sterba 1973; Talwar and Jhingran 1991).

Means of Introduction: Probable release or escape from fish farm.

Status: Failed in Florida.

Impact of Introduction: The impacts of this species are currently unknown, as no studies have been done to determine how it has affected ecosystems in the invaded range. The absence of data does not equate to lack of effects. It does, however, mean that research is required to evaluate effects before conclusions can be made.

Remarks: There are no known voucher specimens.
