(1991); Jenkins and Burkhead (1994); Pflieger (1997); another commonly
used name is Notropis cornutus.
Size: 18 cm.
Native Range: Atlantic, Great Lakes, Hudson Bay, and Mississippi River basins, from
Nova Scotia to southeastern Saskatchewan, and south to James River
drainage, Virginia, northern Ohio, central Missouri, and Wyoming (Page
and Burr 1991).

Means of Introduction: Probable stocking for forage in Utah. Unknown in West Virginia; probable bait bucket release.
Status: Extirpated in Utah (Sigler and Sigler 1996). Established in West Virginia.
Impact of Introduction: The impacts of this species are currently unknown, as no studies have been done to determine how it has affected ecosystems in the invaded range. The absence of data does not equate to lack of effects. It does, however, mean that research is required to evaluate effects before conclusions can be made.
