Identification: Heemstra and Randall. (1993).
Size: 28.0 cm TL.
Native Range: Marine; Indo-Pacific: Kenya to northern South Africa, eastward to French Polynesia and the Pitcairn Is. Unknown from the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, Persian Gulf, and the coast of India (Heemstra and Randall 1993).
Nonindigenous Occurrences:
In 1958, 1808 darkfin hind from the South Pacific were introduced into marine waters off the island of Oahu, Hawaii (Maciolek 1984).

Means of Introduction: Intentionally stocked for sportfishing.
Status: The species failed to become established.
Impact of Introduction: The impacts of this species are currently unknown, as no studies have been done to determine how it has affected ecosystems in the invaded range. The absence of data does not equate to lack of effects. It does, however, mean that research is required to evaluate effects before conclusions can be made.
