Impact DescriptionPistia stratiotes produces a-asarone, a phenylpropanoid with antialgal properties. The growth of all the algae species examined was severely inhibited by this compound. The marked antialgal activity of a-asarone confirms that the phenylpropanoids may interfere with growth processes in plants
