Impact DescriptionPistia stratoides form mats of floating vegetation, which may be colonized by emergent and-or terrestrial plants. These floating islands can become free drifting when broken away from shore and create hazards by impeding navigation and recreational activities such as fishing. In reservoirs, these floating islands may disrupt the production of hydroelectric power and access to drinking water.
