CommentsThis was reported to the IA DNR by email on Tue, Jul 8, 2025, because Curly Leaf Pondweed has never been observed in SOUTHERN Millers Bay prior to 2024, so it has spread there. It is still present now in 2026, and reportedly Curly Leaf Pondweed has now been observed in North Bay of West Lake Okoboji, too, creating surface mats that impeded boating this past weekend. The IA DNR has granted a special events permit for a large 3-band concert this July 4th ON this bay, which draws hundreds of boats to drop anchor there, creating a risk of spreading the curly leaf pondweed to other areas on the Okoboji chain of lakes or to other lakes.
